Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy L. Stevens, of Dublin, will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 1 PM at the Shady Grove Baptist Church, 679 Shady Grove Church Road in Dublin. Reverend Winfred McCloud will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Stevens was born on November 30, 1934, to the late Oliver and Willie Bell Edmond. She became a faithful member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church at an early age, and served faithfully as an usher, and in the Shady Grove Missionary Department, and she was the church mother. She was employed by the Bassett Furniture Company for over twenty-four years, and she retired in 1999. Mrs. Stevens passed away on September 11, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tobe Stevens, Sr., three children, Lonnie Charles Newsome, Marie Newsome, and Betty Newsome, four brothers, Robert Edmond, J. D. Edmond, J. B. Edmond, and Thomas Edmond, four sisters, Eva M. Guyton, Ethel Mae Hightower, Annie B. Story, and Marie Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one son, Antonio (Katina) Green Sr., one daughter, Rene Newsome, both of Dublin, one brother, Oliver Edmond, Jr, of Detroit, Michigan, five stepchildren, Tobe (Florine) Stevens, Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland, Carol Simpson, Joyce (Larry) Stewart, Olivia (Sam) Sampson, all of New Jersey and Ray (Paula) Coons of Dublin, one sister, Ella Mae Holliman of Kissimmee, Florida, eleven grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren, a devoted niece, Catherine (Virgil) Rozar, of Dublin, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
